Glamorgan Cricket is pleased to confirm highly promising all-rounder Andrew Salter has signed his first professional contract with the team.
After playing against Worcestershire at New Road in pre-season, Salter has taken his opportunities to play in the first team during the latter half of the season in impressive style. His off-spin has already been recognised by selection for England age-group teams and his first three wickets for the Welsh Dragons were those of Phil Mustard, Adam Voges and Alex Hales.
The youngster from Pembrokeshire had already played for Glamorgan 2nd XI, Wales Minor Counties and Cardiff MCCU, for whom he made his first-class debut earlier this season against Somerset at Taunton.
Salter said, “I am delighted to sign a contract with Glamorgan. It’s been great to have an opportunity towards the end of this season to play and I’m pleased to get the chance to show the coaches what I can do next year as well.”
Head of Elite Performance, Matthew Mott said,
“Andrew trained with us in pre-season and did well, so it’s been no surprise that when he has had opportunities in one-day cricket this season he has bowled well.
“He particularly impressed in the high scoring game against Nottinghamshire, when they were building a solid total. He bowled the power play and stemmed the flow of runs, taking two wickets in two balls.”
“With his undoubted talent and mental toughness we believe Andrew will have a big part to play next year and in the future.”
