Mike Reed signs 2 year deal with Glamorgan

Glamorgan Cricket is pleased to confirm seam bowler Mike Reed has signed a two year contract extension with the Club.

Originally from Leicestershire, Mike came to Glamorgan’s attention whilst a student at Cardiff University. The tall bowler developed some impressive spells against county professionals whilst playing for the Cardiff MCCU team and has been likened by observers to Steve Harmison in his action and gait.

After graduating from Cardiff University, he joined the Welsh county’s full-time staff and made his first-class debut in 2012 against Derbyshire at the SWALEC Stadium. Reed celebrated his 24thbirthday last week and in the same week recorded best-figures of 3/39 during Kent’s first innings.

Mike Reed said, “I am delighted to have signed a contract extension with Glamorgan. It’s been great to have had an opportunity to play first team cricket this season and this announcement along with an enjoyable home victory against Kent is a great way to sign off the season.”

Head of Elite Performance, Matthew Mott said, “Mike has made a dramatic rise this season. He started the year as a raw, unproven product and you can see in the win against Kent our last match out, how he has developed as a player.

“He’s got all the attributes to make it, he’s athletic, tall, strong and is hungry to prove himself at first-class level. He’s keen to play in all forms of the game, gets good bounce with his deliveries and has the ability to do batsmen for length. This contract extension is good boost for us and is exactly what a hard working, self starter like Mike deserves.

The Club now has a number of quality bowlers on the playing staff and coupled with the signing of Michael Hogan, this news bodes well for the future.”
