Glamorgan's James Harris recalled to England Lions squad

Glamorgan bowler James Harris has been recalled to the England Lions squad for the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka A.

Harris, who also toured the West Indies with the Lions in January, will be in the squad for a four-day match in Scarborough from Tuesday 2 – Friday 5 August, before three one-day matches, at Worcester on Friday 12 and Sunday 14 August, and at Northampton on Tuesday 16 August.

“I’m very happy to have got the recall,” said Harris. “I had a pretty good tour to the West Indies in January, and was hoping to be selected this summer, but there’s a good squad of English bowlers to pick from. With a couple of good performances I can hopefully be knocking on the door of the senior side soon. I’m in the right place and being seen by the right people – the main thing now is that I keep performing well for Glamorgan.”

Colin Metson, Glamorgan Cricket’s Managing Director of Cricket, said: “Everyone at Glamorgan is delighted for James. This call-up is a reward for the good-form that he showed in the winter, on the Lions tour of the West Indies, and some excellent performances for Glamorgan in the County Championship this season.

“It is a great opportunity for him. We hope that he continues to progress at international level and performs well enough to catch the eye of the England selectors in the near future.”

National selector Geoff Miller said: “The England Lions series against Sri Lanka A offers an important opportunity for younger players to gain valuable experience against international opposition and push for further involvement in England programmes this winter. The series will also give players a chance to press for inclusion in the upcoming NatWest Series against India.”
