London 2012 contenders head Cardiff wheelchair tennis entry

London 2012 hopefuls Alex Jewitt and Louise Hunt head the men's and women's singles entries for the 2011 Esporta Cardiff Wheelchair Tennis Tournament at the Welsh National Tennis Centre in Cardiff Bay from 14-16 October.
A total of 36 players will contest the penultimate British-based world ranking event on the 2011 NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, with Jewitt and Hunt going into this year's ITF Futures Series tournament as defending champions in their respective singles events.
Newport-based Debbie Brazier, runner-up to Hunt in 2010, again leads the South Wales challenge, and there is further Welsh representation from Lynn Thomas (Swansea), Laura and Shaun Swetman (Llantrisant), and Martin French (Peterstone).
The 2010 men's runner-up Dermot Bailey is among several of Britain's leading juniors who will hope to mount a challenge to current British senior men's No. 4 and Beijing Paralympian Jewitt, while talented Spanish junior Daniel Caverzaschi is the sole overseas entrant.
Spectators are welcome, and admission is free.

“With the London Paralympics less than 12 months away, this is a great opportunity to see some of the likely tennis contenders in action,” said Tennis Wales chief executive Peter Drew.

“It’s a real thrill for Wales to host this prestigious event, and we’re looking forward to some excellent tennis from our Welsh competitors especially.”
