Titan Signs to Strengthen Welsh Dragons

Glamorgan Cricket have signed South African international Martin Van Jaarsveld for this year’s Friends Life t20 competition.

Fresh from leading the Nashua Titans to the domestic double in South Africa, Van Jaarsveld will arrive in Wales at the end of May.

During his career, Van Jaarsveld has played a total of 118 twenty20 matches and in this year’s MiWay T20 Challenge in South Africa, he averaged 28 at a strike rate of 156, culminating in a vital innings of 32 runs off just 21 balls in the Final.

Welcoming the new signing, Glamorgan Cricket’s Head of Elite Performance, Matthew Mott said:

“Martin is an experienced, quality cricketer and his record speaks for itself. We have been looking for genuine match winners to make us a more potent force and off the back of a very successful season in South Africa with the Titans, Martin fits the bill.

Martin van Jaarsveld said,

“The Titans have had a really successful season and this has re-ignited my passion in the game. I enjoy playing twenty20 cricket and I will be working hard to help the Welsh Dragons reach the 2012 Friends Life t20 Finals Day, particularly as it is being held at the SWALEC Stadium.”

Van Jaarsveld, will play for the Welsh Dragons using his British passport, which still leaves the door open for the Welsh Dragons to sign a second overseas player for the Friends Life t20 competition alongside Marcus North, who will arrive and link up with his new team mates in Cardiff this weekend.

The Friends Life t20 Finals Day will be held in Cardiff on Saturday 25th August. Tickets for this match and also the England v South Africa NatWest Series One-Day International on Friday 24th August, can be purchased online atwww.glamorgancricket.com or by calling the Club’s ticket office on 02920 419311.
