Lou Reed and Benoit Borrust join the Blues

Cardiff Blues strengthen their front five options for next season with Reed and Borrust

Following medicals on both players, Cardiff Blues are delighted to announce the signing of second row forward Lou Reed and prop forward Benoit Borrust.

Lou Reed played for Rhondda Schools before joining the Pontypridd Academy and playing for the Celtic Warriors. He then went to join the Scarlets where he made 109 appearances in the second row.

In June 2011 he was named the Wales national rugby union team 45 man training squad for the 2011 Rugby World Cup and made his full international debut for Wales versus Scotland on 12 February 2012 as a second half replacement.

The 24-year-old from Treorchy will join up with some familiar faces at the Blues, as he was one of three second row players that won the Junior Grand Slam with Wales in 2005, with the other two being Blues players Bradley Davies and James Down.

Having previously played for Sale Sharks and Auch, Benoit Borrust has signed for the Cardiff Blues from French Top 14 side Perpignan. The 26-year-old prop forward has played 55 games in the Top 14 as well as 8 Heineken Cup games and 6 Amlin Cup games.

Speaking of the signings, Cardiff Blues Director of Rugby Phil Davies said,

“Lou is a player I have previously worked with at the Scarlets.”

“He has developed greatly over the last few seasons and has added vast experience to his undoubted talent during this time and will be a valuable asset to our forward pack.”

“I’m sure he will thrive at the Blues and add real quality to our squad.”

“Beniot has had good experience playing in French Top 14 and with Sale Sharks in England over the past 3 or 4 seasons seasons and will certainly bolster our front row.”

“He is a player that the region have followed over the past 12 months and I look forward to working with him at the Blues.”
