Ben Wright Extends Glamorgan Contract

Glamorgan Cricket has confirmed that middle-order batsman Ben Wright has extended his contract with the Club until the end of the 2013 season.

A graduate of Glamorgan junior and age group, the right-handed batsman from Cowbridge made his first-class debut in 2006 after playing for the England Under-19s and scored a career-best 172 against Gloucestershire at the SWALEC Stadium in 2010.

In 2012 he added another century to his tally with a hundred in the LV=County Championship encounter with Hampshire at the Cardiff ground. Later in the summer, Ben also made a match-winning 62 in the Welsh Dragons' victory in the Clydesdale Bank40 game at Swansea against the Notts Outlaws.

Ben, who won his county cap in 2011, said “I am very pleased to have signed a contract extension with Glamorgan. Like all other squad members, I’m looking forward to working hard this winter in readiness for an improved performance next season.”

Head of Elite Performance Matthew Mott said, “It is fantastic news that we have got Ben on board for another year. He is a real team player with a lot of potential and is one of the hardest workers in the squad.

“He’s keen to do very well and is a player than presents a case to be picked in all three forms of the game, so we look forward to him really progressing.

"It’s been a tough year for batsmen, but he has played some significant innings and when he develops that consistency over the full season he will be a real strong player for Glamorgan for years to come.”

Notes for Editors

Ben’s signing marks the final contract renewal amongst the Glamorgan playing squad ahead of the new campaign.
